This summer we decided to take a trip out west - a once in a lifetime trip, as Stafford calls it. Now I understand why. It is a. lot. of. driving. Thankfully, even when radio stations, cell phones, and supposed "always available" GPS were all out of range, Mother Nature entertained us with her spectacular landscapes.
On Wednesday, June 29, we left at about noon, just 2 hours past our intended departure time. Not bad. Lots of road construction in Wisconsin slowed things down a bit, but we made it as far as Perrot State Park in LaCrosse. Not terribly far for our first day, but we were both exhausted from all that packing. I'm sure the park was lovely, but honestly the places we camped at are starting to blur together. All I remember was that I got lost trying to find the showers at night. I nervously hustled back to our trailer, consulted Staff, then drove our car about 200 feet in the other direction where the showers were. For a nature lover, total darkness and nocturnal creature sounds scare the bejeezus out of me.
Doggies loved the drive. Every time we stopped for a rest or to stretch our legs, they wagged their tails at the door and leapt back into the car. On this trip each dog gets their own bed, which is different from the past. We used to just give Cloud his sheepskin bed, but this year everyone got their own comfy spot.
